Haifa street battle short version Jan. 24 Baghdad U.S. and Iraqi forces battled militants in three Baghdad neighborhoods Wednesday as the sounds of gunfire, explosions and helicopter rotors echoed through the center of the capital. The U.S. military called the battle a 'pre-planned security operation' aimed at disrupting 'illegal militia activity' and restoring control to the Iraqi security force.
