Video #1 of 1 (12/12/2025): Howdy! It surely has been a minute since the last film production! My new chapter has kept me rather preoccupied as of the moment. It's been a combination of excitement, frustration, and mindfulness. After having a lack of ample outdoor time, I knew that a chance had to be taken. Today provided some much-needed sunshine and breathing time. During my saunter, there were a few Ponderosa Pine trees nearby making their presence known. The Ponderosa is a coniferous tree that I have pointed out before, but I never went into much detail. Aside from it being common in the western United States, there was also a cultural significance associated with them. Idaho for millennia was and remains native homeland to the Nez Perce and Shoshone Tribes. Their territories once spanned for thousands if not millions of acres throughout Idaho. Nowadays, there are land reservations that the remaining populations inhabit. Given the context, this leads more into why the Ponderosa is so valuable. The tree was often used as a building, watercraft, and weapon source. However, it was ESPECIALLY used as a food source. Specifically, the cambium was the most desirable tree layer. The cambium lies between the phloem (food transport) and the xylem (water transport) layers. Therefore, the cambium is packed with starches, sugars, vitamins, and water! Given that fact, it's a very calorie-rich and nutritious layer. Though the cambium would often have to get processed (drying, boiling, or grinding) to ensure better palatability. It was often consumed as it approached into the spring season. Enjoy the film! There's also a wonderful view if you watch clearly to the end!
