" So in my pregnancy classes I find that a lot of expectant mothers are worried and irritated because they can’t sleep So getting worried about not being able to sleep does not help at all because if you are worried, you can’t sleep all the more So if you are pregnant - this is what you need to understand about your sleeplessness During pregnancy you are sleepless because of the hormone progesterone Progesterone makes you tired sleepy and fatigued throughout the day because it does not want you to run around and spend all your energy it wants you to keep all your energy for baby building And as a result of being tired and sleepy through the day you are unable to sleep in the night However it cannot be a very happy situation when everyone around you is asleep in the night and you are tossing and turning in bed So here is what you can do to sleep slightly better Get some moderate exercise during the day If you are stressed - off load your stress to someone before you go to bed so that you can have sound sleep Eat a balanced diet and make sure that your last meal is a light meal and you definitely eat two hours before you go to bed Nibble on some dry fruit or fruit or drink a glass of warm milk before you go to sleep Finish drinking your quota of water well before you go to sleep so that frequent trips to bathroom don’t keep you awake Minimize your caffeine intake. On top of your sleeplessness you don’t want to add the sleeplessness of caffeine Also minimize your chocolate intake.
