1973 40 hp Mercury 402 - Part 1 of 6 - Will it Run? Bad Wiring Replaced & No⚡️Parts Motor or Runner?

I obtained this motor on trade for doing some work on a Duck Boat with a 50 hp Force ... (see previous videos). At first it had low compression in the top cylinder but after soaking in oil seems like the rings freed up and improved to 155 lbs in both cylinders. The more immediate problem now is that the engine wiring harness is completely corroded and needs the stator replaced and only God knows what else. Let’s look at this one with an open mind and see if we can bring her back from the brink. Finally, I removed the flywheel without a puller...rookie move, in order to install the newly purchased Stator. This is not the proper way to do it since the timing will not be correct if it doesn’t go back on in exactly the same position. To put it back on properly I will need to get the top cylinder at TDC and line up the markings on the flywheel with the pointer in the window of the pull starter housing in order to get the flywheel in the proper position. If I still don’t get spark I’ll have to purchase a new (used) switch box and see if that corrects the problem .
