Henley Royal Regatta 2003-2007 The club: Founded by the pre-Christian "Treverans", Trier is one of the oldest, most picturesque cities in Germany. It has many Roman relics including an amphitheatre. Strategic borders with Luxembourg, France and Belgium made Trier a cultural and government centre at the time of the emperor Constantine. Trier and the surrounding three-river region (Moselle, Saar, Ruwer) is the origin of "Riesling" wine and is home to some 100,000 inhabitants and the University of Trier (about 14,000 Students) The rowing club dates back to 1921 and has 320 members. It hosts an annual regatta on the Moselle and has won several medals at German, Junior-World, U23-World, and Veterans Championships. Most successful current member is Richard Shmidt, European and U23 world champion at coxless fours, and no 7 in the victorious German VIII that took the 2007 Hansecup against the US, Netherlands, Britain and Switzerland. The club looks forward to his appearance in the 2008 Bejing Olympic Games. Treviris enters two eights each year for the three London Head of the Rivers events - Open, Womens and Veterans. Since 2003 they have raced coxless fours or eights at Henley Royal Regatta.
