Because of a freak coincidence, a friend I really cared about came to believe that I had divulged to others a very private secret that he had confided in me. Even after I proved to him that I didn't do it, he never really talked to me ever again. I was really sad to lose him and so I wrote this poem... Sincere concern was all I had, Genuine care when you were sad. But you charged me with treason, Though I begged and I pleaded, I'd treasured your secret To myself did I keep it. But you wouldn't listen Just held me so distant. If only I'd done it At least I'd regret it. Could ask for forgiveness And rely on your kindness. But you judged me already, Your hand ever steady Hammered the sentence - No use for repentance No need to say sorry It's the end of the story. I'm cast off forever The further the better. Our friendship forgotten The feelings so rotten. For you, betrayal. For me, denial. Resentment and sorrow That lingers tomorrow And afterward too As I miss you. Dead in your eyes; You believed all the lies Yet I'll never despise The bond we once shared, The times when you cared I value them so, And I want you to know If you come back again, I'll still be your friend.
