Day 6, Set 6. A gorgeous April Saturday afternoon in an eerily quiet central London. I’m playing two English triple hornpipes, an old and absolutely gorgeous form in 3/2 time. These are dedicated to my friend Jo Lynam, a Londoner, who has been incredibly welcoming to me as I join the session scene here in London. Although she doesn’t like English tunes herself, I do like them. Irish people are allowed to like English tunes. ;) So these are for her, and also for my session friends who do like to play both traditions! The tunes are the antique sounding “If You Will Not Have Me, You May Let Me Go”, and “The Old Lancashire Hornpipe”. The absolute authority on these types of tunes is another friend from London sessions, John Offord, and his book “John of the Green: The Cheshire Way” has a version of both tunes (several versions of the Old Lancashire. You can get his fantastic book here: https://www.johnofthegreen.co.uk/ I hope you like them.
