Turning Cardboard into a LIFE SIZE Grinch Advent Calendar for Christmas!

To get in the Christmas spirit this year, I made a hand-painted cardboard cutout of the #Grinch for a LIFE-SIZE advent calendar! How the Grinch Stole Christmas is such a classic holiday movie and I couldn’t resist creating a little Yuletide art! Having made a Hocus Pocus wood cutout for Halloween, I wanted something lighter than plywood for my advent calendar. That's why I went with a cardboard cutout for the #painting this time around. Good thing it’s the time of year for excess cardboard! Since I wanted the Grinch to have more dimension than a flat piece of cardboard, I built him in pieces. This allowed me to stack them to give off a 3D appearance– especially for the face. The pieces easily glued together and I was able to smooth it all out with a little wood filler. Painting on the cardboard cutout was surprisingly easy. The acrylic paint spread really well on the smooth surface and the finished #art didn't cause any warping. To really bring the Grinch painting to life, I added some multimedia elements including faux fur and bells for his shoes. As for the advent calendar or #Christmas countdown portion– I created twenty-four numbered ornaments out of clear acrylic discs. I ended up printing out some fun holiday patterns and mod podging them onto the ornament discs. I then used the ornaments to decorate a full-size Christmas tree. The concept for this Grinch #adventcalendar is to count down the days until Christmas by taking the appropriate numbered ornament off the tree and placing it in his hand. Each day the countdown will continue and more ornaments will come off the tree. By the end, we’ll have witnessed How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Literally. Merry Grinchmas!
