How to Replace the Blend Door Actuator on a Ford Ranger

How to replace the blend door actuator for the hvac system on a Ford Ranger. A similar procedure may also apply to other Ford models, the Mazda B series, this is a 1998 model truck. This is a fairly common problem, over time the actuator can become dirty inside or eventually wear out. I did release a video about 3 years ago on cleaning the actuator and it did last up until now, eventually the contacts inside or the motor can wear out. There is a couple different types available, this will be based on what type of climate controls you have. Once emptied, pull in the sides to disconnect the tabs and then drop it straight down. No need to disconnect the battery as we will need that in a moment. As you can see the white box on top of the plastic duct. Depress the plastic tang on the electrical connector and remove. Using a standard screwdriver, pry under the motor assembly to unclip it from it’s location. There are no fasteners on this model, how this can vary depending on the years. Take your time, especially if it’s cold as the plastic can be brittle. Lift it straight up and remove. If the plastic rod has broken off inside the hole, you may need to glue something in the center or insert a screw, then pull up the broken portion. I made a mark for the position of the old motor, plugging it back in I can give it a quick test and I can see there is delays in the movement or spots when it doesn’t move if I give small movements on the heater control dial. As you can see, here is the new replacement unit. As mentioned earlier, AutoPartsWay has supplied me with the part and a link to the actuator is included in the description below. There are two different types and this will be based on if you have manual or automatic controls. Plugging in the new actuator, make sure it matches the position of the old one that was removed. Install it into place. You’ll need to ensure it’s snapped in at the front and rear, if are finding issues with it setting properly, you may need to turn the key on to adjust the actuator slightly so it’s in the correct position. Only very small movements are needed while pushing the actuator down. Plug in the electrical connector if you haven’t already. And now the blend door is functioning correctly.
