Molimisi Baaitsi, known to South Africans as Dr Nel, was a fast-rising Lekompo artist from Botshabelo (Roborooi 2), Lephalale in Limpopo. He became one of the most loved young musicians in the province, known for his unique sound, street energy and catchy hit songs. Dr Nel was 31 years old at the time of his passing. He grew up in a rural village but managed to use his talent to build a name for himself in the Limpopo music industry. His music mixed local Limpopo rhythms with modern house elements, making him popular at gigs, taverns, events and social media platforms. Some of his well-known songs include: Tshwara Fase Leoto la Mpete Chelete Ya Mochelo Mosadi Ke Reverse He was loved for his vibrant performances and the way he represented the culture and sound of his home province. Tragic Passing On the early morning of Sunday, 2 November 2025, Dr Nel was found dead on the side of the road in his home village after performing at a local event. His sudden passing shocked the entire Limpopo community. Police opened an investigation, and the province’s music lovers, artists and community members came together to mourn him. Legacy Even though his life was cut short, Dr Nel left a strong impact on the Lekompo genre. He inspired many young upcoming artists from rural areas to believe in their talent. His music continues to play across Limpopo, keeping his name and legacy alive.
