Morocco is in a strong position to become the first Arab and African nation to fly the F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter plane, thanks to lobbying by Israel. Furthermore, Morocco will be the only African nation to deploy the long-range Hanud missile system, the MIM-104 Patriot. This suggests that Morocco is a significant African ally of the United States. The US-made MIM-104 Patriot will arrive for field tests at the Moroccan Armed Forces' main air defense facility in Salé, marking a significant step toward its official acquisition and a significant improvement to Morocco's air defense system. Years of secret negotiations between Morocco and the United States came to a conclusion a few days ago when multiple sources confirmed the delivery of the sophisticated equipment. The beginning of the technical assessment and operational familiarization phase was marked by the sighting of three Patriot launchers being moved down a Moroccan highway. The Patriot system exhibits its proven effectiveness and frontline credibility by combining cutting-edge interceptor missiles with one of the most sophisticated target tracking radars in the world. Previous iterations of the system have effectively intercepted Russian fighters and missiles in a number of battle zones, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, demonstrating its accuracy. In a public statement that same year, Lockheed Martin's vice president of air and missile defense systems confirmed that Morocco would purchase the newest PAC-3 MSE (Missile Segment Enhancement) version of the Patriot system. The MIM-104 Patriot air defense system's newest and most sophisticated version of the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missile is the PAC-3 MSE. With improved range, mobility, and efficacy in intercepting fast-moving threats, it is an improvement over the regular PAC-3. The PAC-3 MSE's range is around 50% greater than that of the regular PAC-3 because to its larger and more potent rocket motor. The testing procedure is similar to Morocco's prior significant military acquisitions. Similar procedures were followed in the purchase of Apache helicopters, which were field tested in Morocco in 2016 prior to the formal agreement being signed, and the HIMARS missile system, which was put through several tests during the African Lion exercise prior to being officially acquired. The Patriot system will supplement Morocco's current air defense network, including the VL Mica Ground Based Air Defence system from MBDA Missile Systems. It can intercept targets at heights above 24,400 meters and at distances between 40 and 160 kilometers. The first six AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters were delivered to Morocco earlier this month at Sale Royal Air Force Base, making it the largest African nation currently purchasing weapons from the United States. US AFRICOM Commander General Michael Langley highlighted Morocco's regional role during the ceremony. Under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) system, the United States currently has $8.545 billion in active intergovernmental sales cases with Morocco. After field tests are finished, the US Defense Department's Defense Cooperation Agency is anticipated to announce the final Patriot missile acquisition agreement. #patriotmissile #f35lightning #fighterjets #military #army
