Getting to the part first that many of you will be interested in the most, all the expense of trucking the the boat was a wash - I would have spent the money anyway, if I had sailed to my destination. Some of the numbers are below - a few more will be in the next video. The time I saved, which allowed me an epic summer of sailing, was added value . . . icing on the cake . . . sauce on the barbecue . . . After sailing to Florida as a looper, a cruiser of the intracoastal waterway (ICW), or a Bahama bound adventurer, many sailors wonder if they should continue sailing and dodging hurricanes, store the boat or sell the boat. This video wraps up a Bahama adventure and weighs the choices and expenses that lead to transporting the boat by truck to quickly reach beautiful summer sailing, quickly. Lovely views, sound insight, and great sailing experiences. Sailing a Catalina 42 - and enjoying the memories and experiences of an epic adventure. Getting to your next destination quickly can be successful and cost effective by trucking. Transporting a boat can cost about the same as time, fuel and maintenance on the water. Finally, backtracking waterways that have already been experienced may not be desirable when other options are attractive. If I did not truck, I would have hauled my boat for inspection, dropped my mast for low bridges and locks, and used fuel and some marinas. The costs below were worth every penny as a down payment on a great summer sailing in beautiful places. The costs were: Cracker Boy Boat Yard (772-465-7031 http://www.crackerboyboatworks.com), Fort Pierce (1/3 the cost of St. Augustine quote, BTW) for hauling, blocking and storage for three days, as well as loading the boat on a truck. $750 Mack sails (772-283-2306 http://www.crackerboyboatworks.com) - stepping the mast, rental of the crane, packaging of the mast - $750 Truck Transport by George Klein Logistics (443-867-7380 https://www.kleinlogisticsllc.com/) costs for 1300 miles - $13,000 . . . Again, $13,000 is not a small amount of money - it is substantial in my budget, for sure! - but it was the best money I ever spent . . . And, again, the three days of shipping allowed me to enjoy a full summer of sailing in the destination I desired.
