Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. Special Thanks to Doctor Borz :) MarΕalla du αΊΓΆga! San Δe Andi yu. MuΔ§a vu αΊo? Hello! My name is Andy. How are you? Let's talk about the Chechen language. The Chechen language, spoken by the Chechens, is one of the official languages of the Chechen Republic and Dagestan. It belongs to the Vainakh group of the Nakh branch in the Nakh-Dagestanian language family and is primarily located in the North Caucasus. The Chechen language currently uses the Cyrillic script, though it was previously written in Arabic and later Latin scripts. Influences from Russian and Turkic languages are evident in borrowed words. With approximately 1.5 million speakers, the language has a strong oral tradition, including folklore (Π΄ΠΈΠΉΡΠ°ΡΡ) and storytelling (ΡΡΡΠΉΡΠ°Π½Π°Ρ). The Nart epic, widely known among the Vainakhs, features figures like the naβrt-aβrstkhoyβformidable giants with a destructive hunger for human flesh. According to legend, the supreme god of all living things, ΠΠ΅Π»Π° (Dela), holds a central role in these tales. Chechens are the indigenous people of the North Caucasus, primarily residing in the Chechen Republic and Ingushetia, with populations also found in western Dagestan and Stavropol. They practice Sunni and Sufi Islam, officially adopted between the 17th and 18th centuries, with Bers-Sheikh as the first preacher in the 16th century. Prior to Islam, Chechens practiced paganism, worshiping the sun and fire, and believed in spirits, the evil eye, and protective amulets. Amulets, often with wolf fangs, were particularly revered. Known for their tower-building culture, Chechens constructed defensive towers during the Mongol and Turkish invasions of the 12th and 13th centuries to safeguard their villages. Today, Chechens lead a calm, traditional life, embracing hospitality as a core value. Guests are warmly welcomed, fed, and clothed; however, after three days, they are expected to help around the household. Chechen culture is deeply rooted in unwritten customary laws, or adats, with strong values around respect and social codes, particularly for elders and the infirm. The code of man, Qβonakhalla, emphasizes honor. Art and folklore play significant roles, showcasing a legacy from pre-Islamic times. The Nart epic introduces Sela, the god of fire, and Pβharmat, who stole fire from him, only to be punished and chained to a mountain, where the eagle Ida eternally pecks at his liver. Another iconic character, Eshap, an old woman of unnatural appearance who guards the entrance to the world of the dead, has become embedded in Chechen expressions and proverbs.
