In 2017, I remember struggling with simple tasks like mowing the lawn. I was feeling unusually fatigued, bruising easily, and dealing with nosebleeds. At 33, I didn’t think it could be anything serious, but my family’s concerns pushed me to seek medical care. I went to a quick care clinic, expecting to quiet their worries, but instead, I received a shocking diagnosis—my white blood cell count was off the charts. I was rushed to the hospital that night, where doctors initially diagnosed me with chronic lymphoblastic leukemia (CLL), which is pretty rare for someone my age. But after further tests, they realized it was actually acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a much more aggressive blood cancer that needed immediate treatment. The video shares my journey through intense treatments, including rounds of powerful chemotherapy. But even after all of that, the leukemia kept coming back. Doctors had to take more aggressive steps, and a stem cell transplant seemed like the only option. To make matters worse, a hurricane delayed my transfer to MD Anderson for specialized care, adding more stress to an already overwhelming fight. At the same time, my dad was diagnosed with West Nile virus, and his condition was life-threatening. It felt like everything was crashing down at once. Through it all, I found hope and peace by leaning on my faith. After several brutal rounds of chemo, I eventually entered remission, but the leukemia wasn’t entirely gone. The idea of needing a stem cell transplant hung over me. Then, out of nowhere, there was a bit of good news—tests showed that maybe I wouldn’t need the transplant after all. It felt like a breath of fresh air in a battle that seemed endless. On top of my own fight with leukemia, I also had to deal with my dad’s illness, and later, the heartbreak of losing my father-in-law to cancer. Despite these heavy losses, my faith and my family gave me the strength to keep going. In 2023, against all odds, we welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world—a true miracle in the middle of so much pain. The video ends with a message of hope and faith. Even with the grim diagnosis and the incredibly tough journey, I believe that my survival and remission were due to a combination of medical treatment and God’s intervention. And even if the leukemia comes back, I feel blessed for the extra time I’ve had to watch my kids grow. My story is about holding on to hope, even in life’s darkest storms, and finding peace in faith, no matter what challenges come your way.
