What better route to test "approach" shoes than a route with "approach" in the name. Milestone approach has some nice exposed hand flake traverses and takes the easiest line, weaving up the face through a handful of VD rock routes. It, and the continuation are a great alternative start to the north ridge at an amenable grade 3. If you're unfamiliar with the route and want to try it, I recommend sitting on a boulder down below with a guidebook and working the line out in your mind before starting. use the big ledges as landmarks. You can easily end up on a VD route and be outside the limits of scrambling if you go off-line. I've climbed this and all the routes around it on many occasions both for fun and guiding friends. So a lunchbreak speed run felt very doable! Very busy day on milestone so I had to politely ask a trio if I could dart over their ropes. Luckily they didn't mind at all! Handy since I was trying to fit the route in on a lunchbreak from work!
