Felix Mendelssohn - Dürer Festmusik

A rare piece by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, the Dürer Festmusik was composed for the Dürer Festival held in Berlin on April 18th, 1828. When originally looking for the music, I couldn’t find any recordings online, but there were scores available for sale online, however they are rare and expensive. Since I could not initially find recordings, I was going to put the sample score into musescore for playback. Upon doing more research, I got in connection with someone who had recordings from a special concert twenty years ago. With their permission, I decided to make a special video with a historical slide show that featured this rarely heard music. The purpose of this project is to get the music heard more. Special thanks to the Mendelssohn Project and John Michael Cooper for organizing and recording this performance. The performance was held in New York, May 3rd 2002 as a premiere.
