With over 19,000 individuals embarking on this treatment, the outcomes are noteworthy. Traditionally, minoxidil gained FDA approval in 1991 for topical use on the scalp to combat hair loss. Yet, a growing trend involves its internal consumption. A total of 19,218 participants have ventured into oral minoxidil use, and I'm eager to share their experiences. Initially explored in the 1970s for its potential to lower blood pressure, minoxidil was FDA sanctioned in 1979 for hypertension management at dosages from five to 40 milligrams. Notably, its use unveiled side effects such as excessive hair growth, accelerated heart rate, and foot swelling. These observations pivoted its application towards hair growth, culminating in the creation of Rogaine, the pioneering hair regrowth medication recognized globally. Despite its established topical application, minoxidil is increasingly prescribed off-label for androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, and lichen planus, among other conditions. This analysis synthesizes data from 10 studies, encompassing 215 women and 19,000 men. Await the unveiling of photographic evidence towards the end. The dosages reviewed varied, with women receiving 0.25 to 1.25 milligrams and men, 2.5 to 5 milligrams. Remarkably, those battling androgenetic alopecia reported improvement rates spanning from 61% to an astounding 100%, depending on the specific study. In cases of alopecia areata, 18% to 82.4% witnessed tangible enhancements. While oral administration of minoxidil lacks FDA approval for hair loss treatment, its potential benefits are apparent through these visual testimonials. However, it's crucial to acknowledge that, as a medication, low-dose oral minoxidil may induce side effects. Nevertheless, I strongly advocate for a comprehensive examination of hair loss causes before considering any treatment, including minoxidil.
