I was 15 when I wrote it and I've been playing and singing it with Dani since then. It's been a favorite of hers and she tells me it's also a favorite of her family and friends and that she gets requests to play and sing it for them at gatherings. Previous to writing this song, I had just learned how to move beyond basic chords and to move up the fretboard with my playing. What a revelation! I remember feeling liberated - like a whole world opened up to me and I was so proud when I wrote this song using my new playing skill. The song is about realizing that it's time to move on and leave someone behind, but struggling to do so. It's something we've all been through and I recall that I was going through that at the time with my first boyfriend who was so sweet and cute, but otherwise not a good match for me. I had a really hard time leaving him behind. Reflecting on this song so many years after I wrote it, the lyrics seem juvenile (with good reason!) and at one point I re-wrote the them to make them more sophisticated, but Dani was NOT pleased. She firmly put her foot down and insisted I keep the old lyrics, so that is what you hear in this video. I hope you enjoy this peek into my early days as a singer/songwriter. A big thank you to Dani for always being my most dedicated fan and supporter and for adding that special sparkle to my music with her gorgeous voice.
