Dr. Jonathan King, The Greens candidate for Mackellar officially launched his campaign at Noon Tuesday 27 July 2010 at the newly established Greens Campaign Office in Dee Why. The event began with an acknowledgement of country delivered by Les McLeod, Ku-ring-gai National Park's first Aboriginal discovery co-ordinator, and Jean-Paul Bell, best known for his work with The Humour Foundation's Clown Doctor program, gave an address supporting Jonathan King. Other special guests, included Joy Yates, of Jubilation Choir fame, David McCrae, local identity Damien Lovelock, actress Lisa Peers, and representatives of the Tibetan community. Jean-Paul Bell spoke of the Greens' support for health and especially mental health. Jean-Paul spoke of the importance of early intervention and local access to health services. Damian Lovelock urged us all to strengthen the Greens so that we have a third party to apply a stronger democracy to our parliamentary system. Mackellar candidate, historian Dr Jonathan King spoke with passion about climate change. He said the effort needed now to combat global warming is akin to the allied forces in world war II. He drew a parallel with those who denied global warming now and those who denied the imminent war in Europe then. Speeches concluded with a short, heartfelt personal endorsement for Dr King by Lisa Peers. On a lighter note, Mackellar Greens released their campaign tee shirt. These tee shirts will be available for purchase from the Dee Why campaign Office, 826A Pittwater Rd, Dee Why, next door to Kelly's camping.
