🥊 FIGHT DESCRIPTION: Frank Martin shook off a slow start and delivered a crucial late knockdown to edge Artem Harutyunyan by unanimous decision in their WBC title eliminator Saturday night at The Cosmopolitan. Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) began patiently, fighting at a measured pace while searching for openings. Harutyunyan, however, capitalized early, landing sharp right hands and collecting rounds while Martin remained relatively inactive. As the fight progressed, Martin recognized that the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist wasn’t going to give him easy opportunities, forcing him to step up the pressure. “The Ghost” held the clear power advantage and began to shift momentum in the sixth round, hurting Harutyunyan with a straight left to the body. Martin followed with a burst of heavy punches as the round closed, though he couldn’t secure the stoppage. Harutyunyan continued to compete effectively in the later rounds, but the damage from Martin’s power punches began to show across his face. Despite the punishment, he remained competitive and appeared close to pulling off the win. With Errol Spence Jr. urging him on from ringside, Martin raised the intensity in the 11th round, shaking Harutyunyan with combinations. By the final round, Harutyunyan’s badly swollen eye had become an obvious target as Martin pressed forward, firing body shots and multi-punch attacks while chasing his opponent around the ring. Overwhelmed and seeking a moment to recover, Harutyunyan dropped to a knee as his eye swelled shut. The brief respite allowed him to survive until the final bell, hoping the early rounds he banked would be enough to sway the judges. Instead, the scorecards favored Martin, who earned the decision with tallies of 114-113, 115-112, and 115-112.
