Kolkata (West Bengal): Junior doctor Sunanda Ghosh said that due to the hunger strike of doctors, one of their colleague’s health condition severely deteriorated and he had been shifted to RG Kar Hospital. Further, she added that despite meeting with West Bengal's Chief Secretary, they received only verbal assurances, with no concrete actions to address their demands. Sunanda Ghosh said, "Nine of us were on hunger strike, seven people from Kolkata and two people from North Bengal, currently one of our colleagues Aniket Mehto, his health condition severely deteriorated yesterday after 120 hours of hunger strike. Because of his critical health, he had to be shifted to RG Kar Hospital." She further said, "We have seen that the Chief Secretary (of West Bengal govt) had called us she, she sent a mail day before yesterday. We sat down in a meeting with our Chief Secretary hoping that he listened to our demands and would address them and fulfil them. But we saw, they gave us only verbal assurances. They were not even ready to hear us out. They only gave us vague assurances and told us they might look into it but let the festival get over while all of our colleagues are suffering and they told us to call off the hunger strike without meeting any of our demands." ► Subscribe to The Economic Times for latest video updates.
