On this Communion Sunday, we turn to John 13 and Luke 22 to rediscover what true greatness looks like in the kingdom of God. In a moment when the disciples were debating status and significance, Jesus responded not with correction alone—but with a towel and a basin. This message explores how the washing of the disciples’ feet is not merely an act of humility, but a defining picture of the Church’s constitution. Greatness is redefined through service. Authority is expressed through surrender. Identity is not earned through gifting or achievement, but secured in knowing who we are before God. As we reflect on Christ’s words—“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another”, we are challenged to move beyond religious activity into relational obedience. The Church becomes a witness to the world not through perfection, but through imperfect people committed to loving, correcting, forgiving, and serving one another under the security of Christ’s love. This message invites us to examine whether we are merely attending church—or embodying the kind of community Jesus envisioned. As we gather at the Lord’s Table, we remember that the One who had all authority chose to kneel. And in doing so, He shows us that strength in the Church is always expressed through surrendered love.
