Dr. Yazed AlRuthia, Associate Professor of Health Policy and Economics and Director of the Pharmacoeconomic Research Unit at King Saud University, highlights the significance of patient support programs and the key barriers patients face in accessing care. He says, “Based on the published literature, I think the patient support programs have impacted both the clinical outcomes or clinician-reported outcomes as well as patient-reported outcomes. We talk about the quality of life, and adherence to medications, either measured by the clinicians or reported by the patients. All of these outcomes were improved after the implementation of patient support programs.” He also says that an integrated healthcare system will provide ease of access to care for patients.
