John Pearse. In life, circles close by themselves or you have to work to close them. I came to Germany in 2001 and had the good fortune to live in a small village in the province of Ludwisgburg, Besigheim. There, as a neighbour, I met a man with an extraordinary and unique story. John Pearse. John had also moved to Besigheim with his wife Linda and we became very close friends. For those who don't know his name, John Pearse was a very important musician, but also a businessman (together with his first wife he started the "Breezy Ridge" company, which still produces the best instruments strings in the world), or as a host and teacher of the first European BBC television show to teach guitar playing in the 1960s "Hold Down a Chord", or as an author of books such as "Cooking with Wine". But above all, John was a friend and a fantastic human being. I have always had a passion for telling stories, see the 'Malweiber von Paris' project and I agreed with John to tell his story. I shot a lot of video footage of him at concerts and also during his physiotherapy following an accident many years ago. In particular, a very personal interview, an excerpt of which you can see here, where John talks about his meeting with the legend Big Bill Broonzy, filmed in his bed at home during the last phase of his life. Sadly, John died in 2008 before the filming was completed. The footage had disappeared in a box during my many moves and was found by chance last year. If someone is willing to fund the project of a documentary about John's life or just want to know more about it, please contact me. I would be very happy to close this circle. Circle, unfortunately still open.
