The Zaova Monastery belongs to the Braničev eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church and is located in the village of Toponica, near the main road Požarevac — Petrovac. It was first mentioned in sources in 1467, but according to legend, it was built in the second half of the 14th century, during the reign of Prince Lazar (1371-1389). The monastery church was built in the Moravian style with the base of an inscribed cross without a cupola and dedicated to the archistrats Mihajlo and Gavril. The monastery was demolished and rebuilt several times, the last time during the first reign of Miloš Obrenović (1815-1839, 1858-1860), while the painting comes from the time of Prince Aleksandar Karađorđević (1842-1858). It was done by the self-taught and at that time highly sought-after painter Živko Pavlović, who is a distant descendant of the famous Pozarevac painter Milena Pavlović-Barili. Near the monastery itself, there are two springs, which the people consider to be healing. The origin of the Zaova monastery is linked to a legend sung in the folk song "God does not remain indebted to anyone". According to her, Jelica was the sister of local lords Pavle and Radul. Pavlov's wife was jealous of her, which is why she killed her own child and accused Jelica of it. The brothers believed her and as a punishment they tied their sister to four horses, which were then released to the four corners of the world to tear her apart. At the place where her body fell, a church was built, around which the brothers later built a monastery, after they learned the truth and repented. In a similar way, according to tradition, the Sestroljin (at the place where the eyes fell), Rukumija (at the place where the hands fell) and Bradača (at the place where the beards fell) monasteries were created. In the monastery church, there is a walled grave that is believed to belong to Jelica, and above it, a fresco shows how four white horses tear her to the four corners of the world. Lake Zaova is located about 15 km southeast of Požarevac, south of the road to Petrovac na Mlavi, on the territory of the municipality of Malo Crniće. The total area of the lake is about 3 hectares. It is fed from several smaller lakes. In the immediate vicinity is the Zaova monastery of the same name. The depth at the dam is about five meters, and in other places it is between 3 and 4 m at normal water level. This reservoir is surrounded by dense forest. There are several types of fish in the lake: pike, catfish, chub and whitefish. Every year at this location, in the municipality of Malo Crneće, at the end of August, the event Stiško poselo is held. As part of the event, a competition in the preparation of fish soup and stew, an exhibition of various associations from this region and a cultural and artistic program are organized.
