We invite the families and friends of our puppies 'into' our home to watch their puppy thrive and grow. They are a beautiful group of 5 blenheim Cavalier puppies, born to Paris and Spike on New Year's. Two girls were born the afternoon of New Year's Eve, while the remaining boys were born via emergency c-section during the early morning hours of New Year's Day. Sadly, the puppy coming after the two girls became stuck due to her breech presentation. We can oftentimes safely deliver a breech-presenting puppy, unless they are in the position this puppy was in. Paris' breech puppy entered the birth canal with one hind foot, her tail, and her butt. Her three remaining legs and feet were pinned up by her head. The difficult decision to spay Paris was made in an effort to save as many puppies as possible without putting Paris' life in danger. By spaying her, the vet did not need to take extra time to preserve her reproductive organs and was therefore able to quickly get to the puppies, tie off her bleeding, and get Paris out of anesthesia asap. With one puppy in distress, we wanted her to get off the phone and retrieve the puppies! Thank goodness that Paris and her puppies made it through safely. Paris is a wonderful mom, which has made this litter of puppies very bittersweet. They are healthy, strong, active, feisty, and full of personality with tons of love to give. They are sooo drawn to people, too! We raise Cavalier King Charles Spaniels with a proactive approach that places an emphasis on their psychosocial development. We have raised many puppies for the distinct purpose for becoming Emotional Support Animals (also known as ESAs); this breed of dog has all the right qualities to make very therapeutic animals (highly affectionate and loving, fiercely loyal, among many others), so we nurture these traits to help bring them out and optimize them further. We try to answer questions during the live streams - please don't be afraid to speak up! We potty train them using pine pellets designed for rehydration. The more we potty them in the pine, the more they want to seek out the pine for going poop and potty. The timing is important because as they get older, they crawl away from their nest to potty and poop - so we want them to go to the pellets! Using this method, our puppies typically understand where to go potty within about a week of practice, and they use the potty tray on their own without guidance within about two weeks of practice. By 5 weeks old, they have their potty training down pretty well but still have night time accidents. By about 6-7 weeks old, they begin waking during the night to use the potty tray rather than wet themselves in their sleep (much like human babies!). Unlike most animal livestreams, we encourage our viewers to engage and ask us questions! We raise our puppies not just in our home, but rather where we are spending most of our time that they are developmentally ready for. Our young puppies, for example, are currently located in our bedroom. We leave the audio on so that viewers are always able to hear the puppies' adorable squeaks, purrs, "barks," howls, and more, but that means you may overhear some personal interactions. We prefer this format because we are able to easily provide context or clarity to viewers if necessary. We show you how we potty train our puppies starting as early as a week old, and how we nurture their training throughout their 8 weeks with us to hand off a well-trained puppy to their family.
