When an emotion arises, notice the impulse to figure it out. Notice the voice that says, "Why am I feeling this?" or "What does this say about me?" That voice is not wrong. It is only doing what it has learned to do. But you can choose not to follow it. Instead, sit and feel the emotion in the body. Heaviness in the chest. Heat in the face. Tightness in the throat. Let it be exactly as it is, without naming it, without improving it, without pushing it away. You are not trying to become someone who doesn't feel. You are simply noticing that the feeling is here, and you are here, and neither one needs to be different. This is like coming home after a long journey. You have been traveling through thoughts, through stories, through endless questions about who you are and why you feel what you feel. And then you stop. You open the door. You step inside. The awareness that notices the emotion has been here all along. It was never lost.
