Gov. Polis’ claim that Colorado is not a sanctuary state in "any way, shape, or form" is inaccurate according to the nonpartisan Center for Immigration Studies, the Lutheran Refugee and Immigration Service, and a series of laws he signed as Governor. HB19-1124 banned any law enforcement officer in the state from cooperating with a civil immigration detainer issued by the federal government. SB21-131 banned all state agencies from sharing personal data with ICE without a court order and removed access to state databases from any local law enforcement agency that wouldn't commit to refusing to share the data with ICE. HB23-1100 prohibited state and local governments from entering into contracts with federal agencies for the detention of individuals on immigration-related matters.
