Raskasta Joulua is a renowned Finnish heavy metal Christmas project founded in 2004 by guitarist Erkka Korhonen. Translating to “Heavy Christmas,” it reinterprets traditional Finnish and international Christmas carols in a powerful metal style, blending heavy riffs, symphonic elements, and soaring vocals. Featuring rotating guest singers from top Finnish metal bands—like Marko Hietala (Nightwish), Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica), Jarkko Ahola, and JP Leppäluoto—the project has released multiple albums, including acoustic versions, and performs annual sold-out tours across Finland, becoming a beloved holiday tradition. *** “Kehtolaulu” (“Lullaby”) is a moving Finnish-language adaptation of Queensrÿche’s “Silent Lucidity,” released by Raskasta Joulua on their 2022 album Viides Adventti. With wintery, comforting lyrics about protection, eternal presence, and reassurance in the face of loss, it serves as a heartfelt tribute to the late vocalist Kimmo Blom.
