Sometimes a painting doesn’t need a complex technique—just the right colors, space to breathe, and trust in the process. For this fluid acrylic painting, I began by testing a color palette of White, Phthalo Blue, Metallic Silver, and Turquoise. Once I saw how beautifully these colors worked together, I decided to create a piece on a 16” x 20” thick canvas. I started by spreading a white base coat across the canvas, then poured Phthalo Blue diagonally, letting it naturally settle into the white. I love how blue and white interact, so I poured additional white directly into the blue to encourage blending and movement. From there, I poured the metallic silver and turquoise and more Phthalo Blue and White. Rather than overworking the surface, I gently spread and blew out the paint, allowing the colors to settle into a balanced, airy composition. I intentionally left a significant portion of the canvas white to create negative space. This piece is all about restraint, flow, and letting the paint do what it wants to do. ✨ I’d love to hear your thoughts—does the negative space work for you?
