Before we start, let’s analyze what people are thinking about when getting rid of a boat. Some people are under the impression that their older boat has an inflated value. You’ll have to wait until reality sinks in. Often you see ads re-posted with lowering prices. PAUSE I look at free boats as cyclical. Let’s start in the winter to the new year when most boat owners have paid their fees and are thinking about launching. Those with boats they are not going to use, want to sell but, who wants a boat when the shots all show the cockpit is full of snow. PAUSE Spring is almost like winter only now the owners believe there is a market for their boat. The truth is that spring is the perfect time to buy a boat to take full advantage of the summer. In the summer people are enjoying their boats but come autumn, hard reality sets in. “I need to sell my boat before I have to pay haul-out, storage, tarping, insurance....” This is the gold time to get an almost free boat. Later will come the free boats, when people just want to unload and get out from under. PAUSE I have previously mentioned free-boats.com as a source of good information. A viewer has pointed out that the site has not been updated recently so for the time being, they are off our list.
