Doug Christie was selected 17th overall in the 1992 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics but never played a game for them. Christie refused to sign a rookie contract with the Sonics after feeling as though he was low-balled in the negotiation process. "The Sonics have really left a bitter taste in my mouth," Christie said prior to the 1992-93 NBA season. "It's kind of sad to say they've come at me with ludicrous offers that I really can't accept." Tracy Murray, the player drafted one slot after Christie, signed a deal that paid $725,000 his rookie year. Christie was pushing for as much as $1.3 million. Ultimately, the Sonics retained his rights until February 22, when they dealt him and Benoit Benjamin to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Sam Perkins. Christie finally made his NBA debut on March 12, 1993. He scored zero points in nine minutes of work. Altogether, Christie played just 23 regular season games, averaging 14.4 minutes per contest. No matter the minutes (or lack thereof), Christie had no issue becoming a regular contributor to episodes of NBA Action. Here's a breakdown of the plays shown above: Tip Dunk on Dallas: April 14 - 10 minutes (5 points) Alley-Oop vs. Seattle: April 23 - 25 minutes (10 points) Steal & Dunk vs. Minnesota: March 31 - 14 minutes (8 points) Bounce Pass vs. Warriors: April 8 - 12 minutes (3 points) No look tip-in vs. Warriors: April 8 - 12 minutes (3 points) Scoop vs. Portland: April 9 - 22 minutes (13 points) Reverse vs. Portland: April 9 - 22 minutes (13 points) Story on Christie's contract negotiation: http://web.kitsapsun.com/archive/1992...
