Before being removed from office and exiled to Russia in 2014, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his administration made over $40 billion disappear through embezzling funds from Ukraine’s treasury. Welcome to the Mezhyhirya Residence, the former home of this corrupt Ukrainian president. The Mezhyhirya Residence was originally a monastery before being converted to a government residence. The compound contains a golf course, an ostrich farm, fountains, a bath house, a Barge, millions of dollars worth of exotic cars, a massive club house, even a solid gold loaf of bread. All of this, and more, is contained in a 5 meter tall fence surrounding the 350 acre estate. Documents show Yanukovych spent exuberant amounts of money on the property- including $800 medical treatments for fish, $14,500 on tablecloths, and $42 million on light fixtures. All while 35% of the Ukrainian population sat below the poverty line. Today my friends and I spent hours visiting the Mezhyhirya Residence which is now a national park, and saw only a fraction of how massive this compound really is.
