Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss, Jena (Germany) Application: Military? Era: post WW2 Magnification: 6x Objective Lens Size: 24mm Field of View: 8.5° - 150m at 1000m Specifics: This binocular is likely of interest primarily to collectors. The DF6x24 originated in 1907 as a 6x21 version and was primarily replaced by 6x30 binoculars after World War I. Nevertheless, it continued to be produced in small series until the early 1940s. Against this background, a DF6x24 from 1946 seems very unusual. The serial number 2276711 actually dates back to 1943, when DF6x24s were no longer being produced. A search using the Kontorbuch list from Hans Seeger's green book reveals that this serial number probably corresponds to repair numbers from 1946. Another exotic feature is that the objective lenses of this DF6x24 feature a blue coating, like the one that was already used with Carl Zeiss military binoculars during WWII. However, a DF6x24 with such a coating is very unusual. The intended use of these binoculars is unknown. As a matter of fact, the DF6x24 was so popular that it was exported to many countries and, for example, was used by the Swiss military until the 1980s.
