Americana is a living film project by Above the Hook — created to preserve, reinterpret, and reawaken the spirit of Highlands, New Jersey and Sandy Hook. This trailer introduces a story rooted in place — shaped by water, work, youth, and community — and told through the people, textures, and quiet moments that made this town what it is. Inspired by vintage Americana, roadside ads, ferry posters, and shore-town ephemera, the project blends past and present to explore what happens when attention finds a place that was never asking for it. Americana is not a finished film. It’s a work in progress — built in public, with the community. Each piece released is part of a larger vision: a collective memory, a cultural archive, and a love letter to a town that has always lived between worlds — old and new, working and wandering, remembered and still becoming.
