A recording of a philosophical paper looking into Edith Stein's proof for the existence of God found within her book, "Finite and Eternal Being". This video will explain Stein's work, as well as Martin Heidegger's critique of all of metaphysics being "ontotheology". Using the pillars of ontotheology developed by Jean Luc Marion, I hope to show how Stein's work is immune to Heidegger's criticism and opens the door for the future of Catholic philosophy. Here is the formal argument for all the filthy analytics who watch: 1. If a given metaphysical system is to be called ontotheological, then it must include at least one of the three foundations of ontotheology. 2. The three foundations of ontotheology are as follows: (a) the inclusion of God within a metaphysical system as a mere entity among others; (b) the placement of God as the efficient causal grounding of all entities in the system; and (c) the presentation of God as a self-caused entity. 3. Edith Stein’s proof for the existence of God does not include God as a mere entity among others within a metaphysical system. 4. Edith Stein’s proof for the existence of God does not place God as the efficient causal grounding of all entities. 5. Edith Stein’s proof for the existence of God does not present God as a self-caused entity. 6. Therefore, Edith Stein’s proof for the existence of God does not include any of the three foundations of ontotheology. 7. Therefore, Edith Stein’s proof for the existence of God is not ontotheological. After recording this video, I need to take about a year off before I think of "being" again.
