In addition to supporting councillors to realise their true leadership potential and increase their impact, the VLGA also assists the sector by carrying out research, policy analysis and advocacy on behalf of local councils. The best way to understand the challenges facing the sector and what supports councillors need is to ask the people who are living it every day. That is exactly what we did last year when we worked with QDOS Research to conduct the first ever VLGA Victorian Councillor Census. With more than 300 councillors responding, we now have tangible data to support what we had been hearing anecdotally from elected representatives for many years.
