The Andres Pico Adobe There is a small museum with a lot of history and artifacts about the establishment of the San Fernando Valley. This hidden place is waiting to be discovered and it’s in your own neighborhood. The oldest standing adobe structure in the San Fernando Valley was once the home to one of the area’s most prominent families. The Andres Pico Adobe is located just off Seplveda Blvd, in Mission Hills. The museum is open Mondays and Sundays with special programs and events throughout the year. Few residents know much about the history of the San Fernando Valley. That may be due to the fact that there are few physical remnants of that history. As such, the Andres Pico Adobe is a priceless treasure. It is one of the few remnants of the early history of Los Angeles, where you can see the home, and personal items of the people who pioneered the city two hundred years ago. The Adobe is nicely restored and the folks from the San Fernando Valley Historical Society provide informative tours of the Adobe, museum and interesting early history of the LA area. The complex is not large, but a docent tour can take an hour or more to complete. If you have an interest in local history, this is a great place to visit. If you are one of the three million people living in the Valley and wondered what was here before it became a massive suburb, come and visit the Pico Adobe and discover what came before. You will not be disappointed.
