Dr. Enrico Benedetti is a prominent transplant surgeon at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Surgery and is a renowned leader in organ transplantation and robotic-assisted surgical techniques. Casa Italia was extremely proud to welcome one of the most accomplished Italian immigrants in Chicago. Honored many times by our community, this is the first chance we have ever had to hear his story and to discuss with him his incredible journey. A FEW FACTS ABOUT DR. BENEDETTI Career and specializations: Medical Director: He is the Medical Director of the Abdominal Organ Transplant Program at UIC. Robotic surgery innovator: Dr. Benedetti is credited with several "firsts" in robotic surgery, including the first robotic donor nephrectomy for a living-donor kidney transplant and the first robotic combined kidney and pancreas procurement. Pioneering transplants: His career, spanning over two decades, has focused on living-donor transplantation. He pioneered living-donor intestinal and liver transplants for young children and has performed the largest series of living-donor intestinal transplants in the world.
