In India every year 1.81 Lakhs people lose their lives in road accidents. This year also 1.2 Lakh people died in road accidents in India. In our Telangana State also last year 6964 people lost their life in road accidents. This year so far 4929 people have lost their lives in Telangana State in road accidents. In three Commissionerates i.e., Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda 1909 people died in 2019 and the year 2020 so far 1147 people lost their lives in road accidents. With an aim to increase the Awareness on Road Safety among commuters and to make Hyderabad City “Accident Free City” today i.e., 07-11-2020 morning 7 AM Hyderabad Traffic Police organised "VIRTUAL RUN FOR ROAD SAFETY" at Necklace Rotary. In this Virtual Run all 25 Traffic Police Stations are organizing the run in the city where each police station is conducting this run at two places. Each place 50 to 60 youth, Citizens and Traffic Police Officers participated and total around 3000 persons participated in this virtual run for road safety. From all 50 locations viz., Khairathabad Junction, KBR Park Junction, Ranigunj Junction, Charminar, Railway Degree College, Tadbund X Road, Narayanaguda X Road, Habsiguda Junction, Rethibowli, Goshamahal Stadium etc., it was screened online through Zoom meeting app and telecasted live on Hyderabad Traffic Police Face Book page also. This Virtual Run is first of its kind organized in the Country by Traffic Police by strictly adhering to Covid norms, to create awareness about Road Safety. In this programme Sri Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Hon’ble Minister for Home, Prisons and Fire Services, Government of Telangana, attended as Chief Guest and addressed the gathering of Runners. Hon’ble Home Minister emphasized strict observance of Road Rules from the early ages itself and every one should feel it is their personal responsibility to follow Traffic Rules and Regulations. Hon’ble Home Minister further made a point that on "following traffic rules saves our lives and Parents and Elders should not allow their children to drive vehicles, unless they are authorized by Law to drive vehicles. In this programme Sri. Anjani Kumar, IPS., C.P., Hyderabad City attended and addressed the gathering. While speaking on the Road safety, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad asserted that every citizen following traffic rules makes them as role model to others. CP Hyderabad urged citizens to inculcate the culture of Law abiding and follow traffic discipline. While speaking on the Road safety, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad expressed faith that every citizen will follow traffic rules like wearing helmet and avoid over speeding, triple riding, Drunk Driving etc. While addressing the gathering, Anil Kumar, IPS., Addl. Commissioner of Police, (Traffic), Hyderabad City, informed that Hyderabad Traffic Police is organizing various traffic awareness programs and have much concern towards road safety and saving the lives of citizens by taking all remedial measures. Addl. CP, Traffic emphasized that the prime goal of Hyderabad Traffic Police is to make Hyderabad City roads accident free and public friendly. Later, Hon’ble Home Minister of Telangana and Sri. Anjani Kumar, IPS., CP, Hyderabad City and other dignitaries released the ballons and flag off "Virtual Run for Road Safety" at Necklace Rotary, Hyderabad. The Hon’ble Home Minister and CP, Hyderabad City presented mementos to all the sponsors and appreciated their patronage. The representative of sponsors companies viz., Indian Oil Corporation, Black Knight Solutions, Shriram Life Insurance, VOGO Rentals, Swiggy and Ola Cabs participated in the programme. Sri. D.S. Chauhan, IPS., Addl. CP L&O, Sri Dr. Tarun Joshi, IPS., Jt. CP SB, Sri A.R. Srinivas, IPS., Jt. CP, West Zone, Sri P. Viswa Prasad, IPS., Jt. CP Central Zone, Sri L. S. Chowhan, IPS., DCP Tr-I, Sri Radha Kishan Rao, DCP, Task Force, Sri G. Chakravarthy, Addl. DCP., Task Force, Sri. P. Karunakar, Addl. DCP Tr, South District, Smt. P. Prashanthi, Secretary General, Hyderabad City Security Council, ACP’s and Inspectors of Hyderabad Traffic Police participated in this Traffic awareness programme. In the conclusion, Sri. M. Bhaskar, Addl. DCP Tr, North District presented vote of thanks. Hyderabad Traffic Police will continue to conduct more awareness programmes to create maximum awareness on Road Safety among the commuters and strive to make Hyderabad City as Accident-Free City.
