Becoming a Partner at McKinsey, BCG or Bain and climbing the top of the consulting pyramid is a dream that many consultants share when they join one of these top consulting firms. Partners and Senior Partners who stay at the top of the consulting firm pyramids steer their firm’s strategy, hold the contacts to the most senior clients and earn handsome Partner salaries at McKinsey, BCG or Bain. When you read recruiting leaflets that explain the progress on the career ladder, they typically indicate that after staying a certain amount of x years with the top consulting firm, you will become a Partner. Hence, is it enough to “just endure” your early years as a consultant, so that after 8, 10 or 12 years you can be sure to become a consulting firm Partner and climb the top of the consulting pyramid at McKinsey, BCG or Bain or another top consulting firm?
