I continue to explain the four sources of Competitive Advantage in this video using the framework developed by Bruce Greenwald, Professor Emeritus, at Columbia Business School. Greenwald's insights are best articulated in his book, Competition Demystified, published in 2005. We can use Greenwald's framework to determine the sources and strength of a company's competitive advantage. Although Greenwald's model is simple, there is brilliance in its simplicity. I use Greenwald's framework to discuss supple-side competitive advantage in this video. I show that to have a cost advantage a company needs proprietary manufacturing technology, production process, or service delivery. In other words, the company must be able to manufacture a unique product, a similar product at a lower cost, or deliver a service in a differentiated way. I also explain that management execution, by itself, is not a source of competitive advantage. However, like brands, superior management execution always enhances a company's primary competitive advantage/s. I will use the Greenwald framework to discuss scale advantages in my next video. #pauljohnson, #valueofgrowth, #valueinvesting, #growthinvesting, #columbiabusinessschool, #fordhamuniversity, #gabellischoolofbusiness, #valuation, #competition, #excessreturns, #ROIC
