God’s Plan for Every Believer As believers, we are each designed by God to have: Lives held together with His liberating truth. Lives surrounded by His guilt-free righteousness. Lives permeated with His confident, hope-filled peace. Lives overshadowed by His 100% Reliable shield of faith. Lives are transformed by the endless new beginnings of His salvation. Lives protected by His Word’s Spirit-empowered sword. When everything operates as designed by God, it is just a wonder to behold. When All the Parts Are Functioning In a small way, the hum of a well-tuned and running engine under the hood of a car is a great example. The ignition system, the fuel line, the lubrication system, the exhaust system all work together to make the drive shaft spin, the tires turn, and the car to work. But even a very small mistake in that interconnected system can make huge problems. I learned that well following the Arab Oil Embargo of October 1973. My 1969 Chevy Caprice with that huge 454 cubic inches, 7-liter engine went only 8-10 miles per gallon on the highway, As the price of gas went from $0.29 to $ 0.55 per gallon desperate times were upon us. Being the practical backyard mechanic that I was at 19 years of age, I heard that 4 cylinder cars got amazing gas mileage. So that evening in the garage I opened the hood, pulled off four spark plug wires, and instantly transformed my gas-guzzling Caprice into a sleek 4-cylinder gas miser. Everything looked great until the next morning when I fired up my car. It actually started and so violently shaken that I almost broke the motor mounts. When that motor didn’t operate the way it was designed, my car was almost useless. Today this is how God has designed us to operate. Jesus the Truth: Holds Together My Life The belt of truth (Eph. 6:14a) Paul spoke of is the amazing way that God secures our lives when we get saved. His truth surrounds us. His truth upholds us. His truth keeps us from getting tripped up (Psalm 119:67) His truth explains life to us (Psalm 16:11). Truth makes us confident, secure, wise (Pr. 28:1). His Word is truth and that Word engrafted into our souls saves us (James 1:21). Salvation means I became a Truth-Lover (2 Th. 2:10). Salvation means I became a Truth-Inhabited (Jn. 14:17, 16:13; 1 Cor. 6:19). Salvation means I became a Truth-Liberated (Jn. 8:32). Salvation means I became a Truth-Guided (Rom. 8:14). When I want His truth that saved me to keep me, I take up the Belt of Truth. When I choose to wrap Him around my life, I am wearing the Belt of Truth. When I do, Jesus the Truth: Holds Together My Life. He makes me wise, confident, secure, bold, and full of joy from knowing Him.
