Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has stressed the importance of upgrading Thika Municipality into city status saying that the upgrade would attract more funding for infrastructural developments. He said that with this elevation, the new Thika Industrial Smart City will attract KSH. 1.5 billion annually for development from the World Bank. He added that he would top up the KSH. 400 million granted by the national government to build Madaraka Market in Makongeni with another KSH. 300 million in order to comfortably accommodate all the 6,000 traders currently using the market. The governor was speaking in Thika while disbursing bursaries to over 2,000 needy students drawn from across all the five wards of Thika Town Constituency. Each Ward received 400 cheques. He noted that so far the county has disbursed over KSH. 300 million in bursaries and would disburse another KSH. 100 million in the next one month.
