Located in the North-East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in the Province of Ituri, in the City of Bunia, Shalom University operates on two Campuses: one called the Southard or Central Campus which is located in the center of the city and the other located towards the Bunia airport called the Langford or West Campus. Shalom University started on September 4, 1959 when the Evangelical Community in the Center of Africa (CECA-20 in French) and the Community “Nation of Christ in Africa” (abbreviated as CNCA-21 in French) founded the School of Theology of North Congo. In September 1961, the institution first opened its doors at Banjwadi, in the Eastern Province of Congo. After a two-year interruption of operations due to the Simba rebellion in 1964, teaching resumed in the facilities of the Bible School in Linga, to the north of Bunia. In September 1967, the School began to operate on the current property in Bunia where it has developed ever since. In 1969, the Community of Baptist Churches in Eastern Congo joined the ETCN as a third Church member. In 1972, the name of the school was changed to the School of Theology of Bunia, abbreviated as ETB in French. On March 28, 1973, the ETB again changed its name to become the Bunia Theological Seminary, abbreviated as ISTB in French, to be in line with government mandated standards for post-secondary education. In 1978, Emmanuel Community (CE-39) became the fourth member community. Finally, in 1982, the Evangelical Community of Christ in the Heart of Africa (CECCA-16) joined ISTB as the fifth member community. In 1986, ISTB added a Master’s program in Theology for the first time. On February 25, 2007, 46 years after it first opened, Bunia Theological Seminary finally became Shalom University of Bunia, abbreviated as USB in French. Our vision is spiritual and academic excellence for the transformation of society through Christ. Our mission is to prepare university students to meet the needs of the Evangelical Church and African society. Shalom University of Bunia organizes its programs in three levels including Undergraduate, Masters and a Doctor of Theology. There are currently six Schools including: The School of Evangelical Theology The School of Administration and Management The School of Agriculture The School of Sciences The School of Development Sciences and The School of Medicine In addition to these six Schools, we have two other advanced programs. First, we have a Master's program in the Leadership and Management of Organizations that we offer in partnership with Development Associates International, a Christian organization in the USA. It provides Christian leadership training at the Master’s level for leaders from any area of academic training. This program is in his fourth promotion. We have a lot of students who attend from all over the country. These students, come to Shalom twice a year from all over the country for a week of classroom teaching and then they return home to continue their studies with their mentors online without interrupting their normal work. Finally, we have the Doctoral program in the School of Evangelical Theology offering degrees in both Biblical Theology and Missiology. "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen". (1 Peter 5: 10-11).
