Jan von der Thüsen, MD, PhD, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, Netherlands, gives an overview of the emerging role of artificial intelligence (AI) in analyzing lung cancer pathology images. Specimens are typically analyzed for scoring purposes and the advent of AI enables the processing of large amounts of samples for biomarkers such as PD-L1. The technology may also be applied for lung cancer neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and other thoracic tumors. This interview took place at the 2024 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in San Diego, CA.
