Winter Forestry Ride | Dead Battery, Storm Damage & Clearing the Way

Winter has arrived since the last visit. Temperatures sit around –10°C, with roughly 10 cm of fresh snow on the ground, as I head back into the same forest to continue the work — or at least, that’s the plan. The day starts with an unexpected problem: the ATV refuses to start. The battery is simply too weak in the cold. Luckily, I carry a NOCO booster, which gets the Can-Am running again and allows the journey to continue. I ride through snowy forest tracks and a faster forest road section toward the work area, carrying two chainsaws — Stihl MS 211 and Echo CS-4920. Just before reaching the destination, the forest road is blocked by storm damage from a recent windstorm. Three spruce trees have fallen across the road, although at first glance it looks like only one due to branches blocking the view. Using the Echo, I carefully clear the road. The trees are partially suspended above the ground and large enough to demand attention, as tension and compression can easily cause unexpected movement. I clear only what’s necessary to reopen the road and move the logs aside — they’ll be turned into firewood later. With the road passable again, I continue — until the ATV refuses to start once more. Once again, the booster saves the day. At the end of the ride, I experiment with charging the battery by letting the ATV run at higher RPM while stationary. The actual tree felling will continue in the next video. No rush. No shortcuts.
