Outside Hook Turn Soccer Move Video on How to Dribble a Ball: • Видео Video on How to Shield the Ball: • How to Shield the Ball Link to Soccer Dribbling & Foot Skills book: https://amzn.to/2O6g1EW The hook turn in soccer is also known as the outside of the foot turn or the chop. Tip # 1 Position your foot correctly. Shape your foot like a hook, which means your toe is up and heel is down while your ankle is locked. Also, keep your knee slightly bent and foot slightly off the ground. Tip #2 Make sure to get your foot all the way past the ball. When performing a chop shot fake, it is vital to move the outside of your foot entirely past the ball when you reach for it so that the ball hits the outside of your foot as it rolls so that it will stop. It is highly recommended that you stop the ball when performing a chop shot fake so that it is right next to your foot once you go to plant and explode away in a different direction. If you do a hook turn lazily, the ball will keep rolling a bit and it can impact your next touch’s accuracy, especially when on a bumpy field. If you perform it correctly where the ball stops, you will know exactly where the ball is to quickly transition to what you want to do next with the ball. By the way, I'm Dylan Joseph, Soccer Trainer and #1 Amazon Best-Selling Author. Tip #3 Use this skill to put yourself between the ball and the defender. Certain skills are best used in specific situations. With the soccer outside cut, you can chop the ball with the outside of the foot to effectively ensure that your body is between the defender and you. This will make it very difficult for the defender to get the ball without fouling you. However, keep in mind that this often means you turn your back to face the direction in which you need to travel to score. Therefore, use the outside chop soccer skill when you are no longer looking to attack forward and want to lay it off to a teammate making a run or back to a teammate who is behind you on the field. Avoid this skill when you want to continue attacking towards the net. A better cut to continue traveling forward is the step-on step-out. When you do the hook turn, get your arms up and out to make it easier to shield the player on the other team trying to steal the ball. A pro-tip is to combine the hook turn with a shot fake. Remember from a previous video that a shot fake involves your arms going up as well as the leg that you are pretending to shoot with exactly as if you were to take a shot. Combining a hook turn and a shot fake will buy you even more time because the defender will do one of two things: If they are within 3 yards of you, they will likely dive in to block the shot, thereby opening up space for you to get past them. Or, if they are 5 or more yards away from you, they will flinch because they do not want to be hit by the ball. A great way to practice the soccer hook turn is between two lines five yards apart on the field. If your field does not have lines, use cones, but you really do not need anything at all. This will make you comfortable both taking a touch that is 5 or so yards away from your body, and becoming more comfortable with the soccer chop cut. I recommend facing the same direction the entire time and cutting with your left foot on the right side and your right foot on the left side. Go back and forth for sets of 10, which is 5 hook turns on each side. As you get better, add in that shot fake to your practice reps to become more comfortable using a terrific skill like this soccer chop turn.
