Notes & Scripture references for this video are here: https://app.mindstudio.ai/share/publi... Summary article: https://app.mindstudio.ai/share/publi... Hey, I'm Daren Willcock—thanks for joining me. If you've ever wanted to think more carefully about how we reason from Scripture to theology, you're in the right place. This is the first in a series where we'll examine logical fallacies commonly used in arguments for the Trinity and the deity of Christ. Grab your Bible, and let's dig in together. Does similar equal same? You've probably heard arguments like these: • "Jesus is called 'Lord' — Yahweh is called 'Lord' — therefore Jesus IS Yahweh!" • "Jesus forgives sins — only God forgives sins — therefore Jesus IS God!" • "Jesus receives worship — only God receives worship — therefore Jesus IS God!" These arguments sound airtight. They feel biblical. But do they actually hold up under scrutiny? In this video, we examine one of the most common logical fallacies used in theological debates: false equivalence — the error of treating two things as identical simply because they share some similarities. What you'll learn: ✅ What false equivalence actually is (and why it's so persuasive) ✅ How shared titles don't prove shared identity ✅ What the Greek word κύριος (kyrios) actually means — and why context matters ✅ How God delegates authority, titles, and functions to human agents throughout Scripture ✅ Why the Bible's own distinctions between God and Jesus are often overlooked We'll examine: 📖 The semantic range of "Lord" (κύριος) in the New Testament 📖 Old Testament examples of humans receiving "worship" (προσκυνέω) 📖 How Jesus himself distinguished himself from "the only true God" (John 17:3) 📖 What the apostles actually taught about God and Christ This isn't about attacking anyone's faith — it's about testing arguments against Scripture itself, just as the Bereans did (Acts 17:11).
