Bullfrog removal to benefit the imperiled Northwestern pond turtle

Invasive American bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana) threaten recovery efforts for the Washington state-endangered Northwestern pond turtle (Actinemys marmorata) at four sites in the Columbia River Gorge. Poor recruitment of juvenile turtles can be directly linked to predation by non-native bullfrogs. After many years of doing partial and unstructured bullfrog removal, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife committed to and funded removal of all life stages of bullfrogs at the most populous Northwestern pond turtle site in the state beginning in 2015. This webinar will tell the story of these bullfrog removal efforts and detail the methods used, focusing on those that have been most successful.
